What are Chemical Peels?
To provide the highest quality results from chemical peel treatments, Kat Motlagh's Health Clinics provides you with multiple treatment options. Your medical-grade chemical peel with exfoliating solutions (such as salicylic, glycolic, trichloroacetic, and lactic acids) will give you healthier, smoother, and more radiant skin. At our Palmdale, CA office, Dr. Katayoun Motlagh and her experienced team offer chemical peel treatments that help to solve skin flaws like scars, fine lines, wrinkles, rough patches, hyperpigmentation problems, and more. Chemical peels remove dead, damaged skin cells with the application of special treatment on the skin that causes the oldest layer to slough off. As your skin heals and begins to repair and rejuvenate itself, you may notice a clearer, smoother complexion. A chemical peel facial is a nonsurgical method to make your complexion bright and is appropriate for the face, neck, and décollatage.
Variations of Chemical Peels
At our Palmdale, CA office, we perform chemical peels on a few levels (light, medium, and deep) to accommodate our patients' skin needs.
Light peels: You can have a light peel on your lunch break and return to your day. This strength of peel will remove the top layer of your skin (the epidermis), giving your face a brighter appearance and smoother texture. We typically recommend that you receive a light treatment around once a month for the ideal glowing results.
Medium-depth peels: This strength of peel goes further into the skin, and patients usually prefer to have this strength of facial treatment over a long weekend. You may also need to ready yourself for more discomfort during and about one hour after treatment. Medium-depth peels are designed for patients who have significant damage to their skin, like deeper lines and darker pigmentation problems.
Deep peels: The strongest of the three types of chemical peels is the deep peel, and it does require the lengthiest recovery time. This is an aggressive cosmetic treatment that may leave your face peeling, itchy, and swollen for several weeks. Patients who get a deep peel will have dark age spots, sun-damaged skin, entrenched acne scars, or deep scars. As this strength of peel is usually uncomfortable for most patients, your aesthetician can provide you with an anesthetic before your procedure.

Getting the recommendations of a cosmetic specialist is the first step in the journey to healthier skin. A team member at Kat Motlagh's Health Clinics will evaluate your skin in a consultation in our Palmdale, CA office before choosing a chemical peel for optimal results. Chemical peel candidates, both women and men, should have noticeable concerns with their skin, like acne scars, rough patches, flaky skin, discoloration, wrinkles, fine lines, sun spots, and more. We may recommend varying strengths of chemical peels to meet your goals.
During your procedure at Kat Motlagh's Health Clinics, we will have you lying down in a relaxed position to administer your treatment. We will ensure your skin is cleansed before applying the customized solution to the treatment areas. We will spread the solution onto the skin and let it work for a specific amount of time which will be discussed in your chemical peel planning session. Next, we will wash the solution off your skin and apply a neutralizing agent. Patients may want to bring sunscreen and/or a hat to wear outside after the peel to protect from sun exposure.
What to Expect
Depending on the type of peel you have, you can expect the face to itch and peel from a few days to a couple of weeks. Dr. Motlagh or a member of Her team will explain ways to treat your face during your consultation. Please keep in mind that no matter how much your skin itches throughout the healing process, it's not helpful to pick the skin off. You may create scarring on your facial skin!
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a chemical peel cost?
Dr. Motlagh can discuss your costs in your consultation after she has created your custom treatment plan. The cost of a chemical peel can vary depending on the intensity you select. Kat Motlagh's Health Clinics takes several payment methods, and we often run specials on treatments like chemical peels. You may also consider buying a package of several chemical peel treatments.
What level should I choose for my chemical peel?
Which level of chemical peel is best for you will vary based on your specific skin concerns and cosmetic goals. In your initial consultation with Dr. Motlagh, She will help you select which chemical peel is right for your skin. A few things you may consider are your general health, the type of skin you have, how deep you want the peel to work, how long you can spend in recovery, and what concerns you have about the appearance of your skin. For first-time patients, it is better to try a lighter chemical peel and decide what you think of the results. From there, you and Dr. Motlagh may alter your treatment plan to decide the best chemical peel level for your skin.
Should I get a chemical peel or dermabrasion treatment?
Dermabrasion and chemical peels are both facial treatments that treat surface imperfections to give your skin a softer appearance. The difference is that dermabrasion requires special tools (a shaving instrument or rotating brush) to remove the top layer of skin with a careful exfoliating process. A chemical peel uses a caustic solution that is applied to your skin to dissolve dead and damaged skin cells. In your initial consultation, Dr. Motlagh will explain the advantages of both options and help you choose if a chemical peel or dermabrasion is better to achieve your needs and goals.
Will my face hurt after a chemical peel?
Depending on the chemicals used, you may have mild discomfort during the application process. If you get a lighter peel, you may notice some stinging; however, it goes away quickly with the use of a small fan. Medium and deep peels are better for deeper skin damage and give you longer-lasting results; however, they are usually more uncomfortable. Numbing cream, medications, and soothing ointments may be used to help you feel more comfortable during the treatment. Dr. Motlagh or a member of her team will discuss how to care for your skin after a peel to help your skin heal.
Can I combine a chemical peel with other treatments?
You may consider combining a chemical peel with another skin treatment at Kat Motlagh's Health Clinics. In your consultation, be open with Dr. Motlagh about your skin concerns so she can develop a personalized treatment plan that delivers your best results. This might include injectable wrinkle treatments (such as JUVÉDERM® or BOTOX®) plus a chemical peel to refresh your whole appearance.
